Stories Set In Winter
In today's episode I dedicate myself to one of my winter songs. In the Christmas episode of December 20,
I had once checked how many of my songs clearly play in winter and came up with 5 titles.
If I had been asked before, I would have estimated more. The mood this season brings is a wonderful environment for a songwriter, especially
if you're not writing about the sunny side of life.
This time I would like to introduce you to the song ALL YOU SHALL KNOW. The track was released in 2019 on the album THE CARE & FEEDING OF THE MONKEY.
Do songwriters actually write songs with stories set in winter during the winter months?
Good question! To be honest, I don't even know exactly when I wrote a song without checking my records again. With over 150 titles written and an undetermined number of sketches, ideas and half-finished songs, it's no wonder.
So I checked and on my first handwritten draft the date is April 12, 2012, so I wrote ALL YOU SHALL KNOW in the spring.
However, I can still remember how I recorded the first demo in my one-bedroom apartment in the city at that time. My place to stay I had called lovingly my "hotel room".
It was already very late at night and in order not to disturb the other "hotel guests" I sang the vocals extremely quietly and reserved.
Later, when I was working on the proper production for the album, my wife said that the original vocals from the demo reflected exactly the right mood of the song. And she should be right. Every attempt to re-record the vocals failed.
Occasionally that's the way it is. This was not the first time. When an idea manifests itself, sometimes you do something with it that you can't repeat that way, no matter how hard you try.
Here is now for you the song with the special Hotel Room vocals.
More Great Winter Music
Once again I recommend you my Winter Songs Spotify Playlist. Besides my own songs, I have now added some excellent winter songs from some highly esteemed fellow musicians.
